Overview

Replace the OEM head bolts in your 2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke with the XDP X220 Series Head Stud Kit XD3004HS. Upgrading to these head studs helps avoid the common head gasket failure issues that arise when you start adding more horsepower and torque to your Super Duty. The 8740 Chromoly Steel construction with an added proprietary element is more durable and will not stretch like the factory bolts. The threads are rolled after heat-treating to provide optimum fatigue strength. These heavy-duty, reusable head studs are rated at 225,000+ psi tensile strength and 205,000+ yield strength to ensure better clamping force under higher combustion pressures to help prevent a lifted cylinder head or a failed head gasket.

In addition to the increased strength, replacing the factory head bolts with studs also allows you to obtain a more precise torque reading. A conventional bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time. With a stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force. These studs are a must-have for high-horsepower applications and are reusable, unlike the OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use. Another benefit of studs is they provide for easier engine assembly and proper alignment of the cylinder heads every time. To ensure maximum quality the studs are manufactured in an ISO/TS 16949 quality control facility. For a hassle-free installation, each set includes installation instructions. XDP Thread Cleaning Chasers (Sold Separately)

The XD40127TC (for head studs) and XD40128TC (for inner row bolts) are a great add-on that will be critical during installation. Thread Cleaning Chasers are an excellent tool to have on-hand to ensure you have properly cleaned the threads in your engine block before the installation of any fasteners. Clean threads provide accurate torque readings and will help give you peace of mind during your engine build or head gasket repair.

XDP X-TRA Slick Engine & Fastener Assembly Lubricant (Sold Separately)

The use of XD541 is highly recommended during engine assembly. Apply XDP X-TRA Slick Lubricant to head studs, head bolts, main studs, main bolts, connecting rod bolts, and any other fasteners used during engine assembly. Using a proper assembly lubricant during fastener installation reduces friction and torque pre-load scatter in the torquing sequence, while also helping to prevent thread galling and seizing.
